Description
A proposed amendment to the Immigration and Refugee Protection Regulations is under consideration. This amendment aims to introduce a new permanent economic class for workers with experience in Training, Education, Experience, and Responsibilities (TEER) categories 4 and 5. This initiative is part of the broader effort to modernize the economic immigration system by broadening the selection of permanent residents to include candidates with a wider range of skills and experience. Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada is aiming to pre-publish these amendments in the Canada Gazette, Part I, by Fall 2024, with a subsequent publication in Canada Gazette, Part II.
Regulatory cooperation efforts (domestic and international)
No domestic or international regulatory cooperation is required for this initiative.
Potential impacts on Canadians, including businesses
The proposed regulatory amendment would affect foreign nationals with Canadian work experience in TEER 4 and 5 occupations. It is anticipated that this change will enhance the opportunities for these workers to obtain permanent residency, thereby allowing them to continue contributing to the Canadian economy and assisting businesses that have labor market needs in these occupations.
Consultations
The amendments are expected to be pre-published in the Canada Gazette, Part I, by Fall 2024.
