ETS, a globally recognized provider of educational assessments, announced that Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has designated ETS as an approved language testing organization for the TOEFL Essentials test, intended for applicants to Canada’s permanent economic immigration programs ETS.
However, IRCC has not yet begun accepting TOEFL Essentials scores. The department will update its official website once the acceptance process starts. In the meantime, ETS is collaborating with IRCC to iron out the rollout details—including timing and available test locations ETS.
TOEFL Essentials is designed to be a high-quality, dependable, and accessible way for newcomers to showcase their English language skills. The test assesses all four essential skills—listening, reading, writing, and speaking—through real-world, task-based questions. Its format allows it to be completed in about 90 minutes at secure testing centers ETS.
Omar Chihane, Global General Manager of TOEFL at ETS, emphasized the test’s suitability for those planning to live and work in Canada, while noting that the longer-established TOEFL iBT remains the go-to option for academic purposes ETS.
The introduction of TOEFL Essentials aligns with Canada’s 2025–2027 Immigration Levels Plan, which sets annual targets to attract skilled professionals in sectors like healthcare, engineering, technology, and trades. This new testing option is expected to support applicants and the professionals assisting them by streamlining the English-language requirement process ETS.
