Northwest Territories Nominee Program to re-open February 27, 2025

February 23, 2025BY Astute ( 0 ) Comment

The Northwest Territories Nominee Program (NTNP) will begin accepting applications at 9 AM MT on February 27, 2025, and will close at 5 PM MT on March 6, 2025. Eligible applicants can submit their applications online through the NTNP website.

Following a recent reduction in the federal government’s nominee allocation for the Northwest Territories, the Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) has taken feedback from residents, businesses, and organizations into account. As a result, adjustments have been made to the 2025 intake process and program guidelines. These changes aim to address the needs of individuals with expiring work permits, recognize employees’ long-term commitments to NWT employers, and support the diverse workforce needs of the territory.

For 2025, the Northwest Territories has a nomination allocation of 150. When the intake opens, 90 new applications will be accepted since 60 applications from 2024, exceeding the previous year’s allocation, are being processed under the 2025 quota.

The breakdown of the 90 new applications is as follows:

  • 70 applications under the Employer-Driven Stream for Yellowknife employers

    • 35 applications for Entry-Level/Semi-Skilled Occupations. Applicants must meet all eligibility criteria, including holding a work permit expiring in 2025 and having worked full-time for their employer in the same role for at least 12 months before applying.
    • 35 applications for the Skilled Worker and NWT Express Entry categories. Eligible applicants must:
      • Have a full-time, permanent job offer from an NWT employer, one year of experience in the nominated role, and a work permit expiring in 2025; OR
      • Have been employed full-time in the NWT for their nominating employer in the same role for at least 18 months before applying.
  • 10 applications under the Employer-Driven Stream for employers outside of Yellowknife

    • 5 applications for Entry-Level/Semi-Skilled Occupations, with the same eligibility requirements as those in Yellowknife.
    • 5 applications for Skilled Worker and NWT Express Entry categories, following the same criteria as Yellowknife applicants.
  • 10 applications for the Francophone Stream or Employer-Driven Stream

For the 2025 intake, the number of applications an employer can submit under the Employer-Driven Stream is based on the size of their workforce:

  • Businesses with 1–10 employees: 1 application
  • Businesses with 11–49 employees: 2 applications
  • Businesses with 50+ employees: 4 applications

After the application period ends, a pre-screening will take place, and 90 applications will be randomly selected for assessment, rather than on a first-come, first-served basis. Applicants will be notified via email about whether their application has been chosen. Selected applications will be processed in order of work permit expiry date.

The GNWT acknowledges that not all interested and eligible applicants will be able to participate in the NTNP this year, which may be challenging for both applicants and employers. Employers are encouraged to explore other federal immigration programs to meet labor demands. The GNWT remains committed to advocating for an increased nominee allocation from the federal government.

Prospective applicants should review the updated program guidelines and application checklists and start gathering the necessary documents before the intake period begins. For further inquiries, contact 1 (855) 440-5450 or immigration@gov.nt.ca, or visit www.immigratenwt.ca.
